Hi, I’m Dan and this is my music blog. I’m a musician from Liverpool in the UK and I’m hoping to use this site to promote my recordings and let people have a listen to what I’m up to. I’ve been in a few different bands over the years and done all kinds of stuff really. I played the bass in a punk/funk/reggae band called Kagnee for a couple of years which I loved doing but unfortunately I had to quit due to illness. I’m still getting back on my feet really after a long time out, my health is a little better and I’m ready to make some noise again I hope. You can check out Kagnee here

What Is Shed Music?
I tried inventing my own style of music a few years back which I called Shed Music, nothing pretentious about that is there? Anyway, it was good fun and it was kind of different I suppose in musical terms, in hindsight it wasn’t really a new form of music so much as a good excuse to have some fun. I wanted to start an Internet music service for artists around Shed Music, this was in the year 2000 and at the time it took 20mins to download a 3min track, it went down like a lead balloon. People told me there was no demand for music downloads, it would never work. Now Steve Jobs is making a fortune from iTunes but I’m not bitter… honest

Who/What Is SonicRealEstate?
I’m glad you asked that It’s just me really but I don’t like to put my own name on tracks and prefer to use a band name, Sonic Real Estate is the name I came up with years ago and I’ve always used it for solo stuff. It’s not like a pseudonym or nickname, my name is Dan and that’s what everyone calls me. It’s my band with one member at the moment, kind of like Trent Reznor does with Nine Inch Nails or Mike Skinner with The Streets. Putting your own name on an album is so last week hehe

My Studio AKA The Bunker:
I record in my home studio mostly, I’ll post some more details about that as I go along. I’ve been trying to record an album for about 3 years which I want to call Memory Box but it’s still in the early stages of development. I’ve got some decent songs written and as I record them I’ll put them out through the blog here for everyone to enjoy (or laugh at). I play guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and harmonica on the tracks and I produce everything myself. Record production is something I’ve always wanted to do full time but it’s hard to get into, I hope maybe someone will hear what I’ve produced and ask me to come and record something with them, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys is my hero in that regard. Pure genius.

This is my trusty Yamaha acoustic guitar, it’s never let me down. If you look closely you’ll see the date it was made on the 12th fret, you probably won’t make it out on this image, it’s a limited edition… ok I’ll stop showing off now. (click image to enlarge)
